Mary Winkler has gotten custody of her three children just in time for school to start. You’ll remember Winkler as the lightly-punished killer who was convicted of slaying her husband Matthew 2 years ago. Winkler was sentenced to 2 years in prison and served only 12 days after her conviction. The light sentence was shocking and surprising to even the most liberal feminists.
The three children, in the house when Winkler shot her husband in the back, had been in the custody of Matthew’s parents, Dan and Diane Winkler. The CNN story is here. A similar report from FOXNEWS is here. One widely read blogger, The Advice Goddess has some strong comments in an entry today. One final link on the story is here.
Certainly we believe and know that anyone can be forgiven of any sins. But the state of Tennessee should be ashamed at the ridiculously short sentence given Winkler in the first place and now to allow three innocent children to be returned to her care is astounding. Hopefully, Mom won’t loose it again when the children misbehave.
