Andre Gide was a french writer and a recipient of the Nobel Prize for literature in 1947. He viewed himself as a man torn between opposing views of society. He was willing to change his views upon study and reflection. He was a supporter of Communism but changed his views after a visit to the USSR in 1934 convinced him otherwise. Gide said:
“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”
I wonder how many people live in timid Christianity today because they have not had the courage to release the world and go to Jesus. How man stagger and stumble in lifeless denominationalism because they are afraid to fully embrace all of the Word of God? It wasn’t until Peter left the boat that he, and we, came to understand true faith (Matthew 14:22-33).
Are you ready to lose sight of the shore? Jesus is waiting.
